On 29 October 2015, we took on Scafell for the first time, climbing England’s highest peak over 5.8 miles and nearly 1,000 metres of elevation. The ascent was tough and slow-going, with almost 658 metres gained in the first two miles alone, before finally reaching the summit and beginning the long descent.
The way down was faster, and the final mile saw us pick up the pace dramatically to 3.69 mph—though our heart rate jumped to 136 bpm in the process. A challenging 3 hours and 18 minutes on the mountain, but a memorable first climb of Scafell.
